Risks and challenges

Creating an online platform that gives users the experience of shopping at a brick and mortar store from the comfort of home may be difficult to accomplish, and data obtained from participants may not be thorough enough to offer insight.

Research and ideation

Meet Laura! She is the user persona created to represent a segment of users likely to use Instacart's new retail feature.

The user flow maps out how a user, like Laura, would interact with the app.

In an effort to create a digital product that could be competitive in the market, it was important to take a look at pioneers in the industry.

Instacart’s brand attributes are the core of who they are: welcoming, joyful, thoughtful, trailblazing, and empowering. Keeping this in mind, I created a UI Kit that is consistent with their brand guidelines, but also feels unique.

Design process

In an effort to create an intuitive experience for existing users, the structure mirrors Instacart’s current layout with some differentiation to UI elements. I also had to consider the additional information needed to shop online, i.e. sizing, colors, and so forth. Below is my design thinking at work.

A prototype of the designs was used to test its functionality and usability during a design validation phase and priority revisions were implemented from there.

**The concept and interface for Instastyle was created during a class and never fully realized into a working app.
